Billboard Trouble in Amarillo

I was watching the local news this evening and saw a story about a haunted house advertisement in Amarillo, Texas that is causing trouble. The operators of the haunted house Terror on 10th attached a manequin to the billboard by a noose. The mannequin has air cylinders that cause the legs to kick while it is hanging. From the video I saw it looks kind of strange and I can see how it is distracting to drivers. Some people even called 911 thinking the mannequin is real. Others are stopping to take pictures. It is obvious the operators of the haunted house are trying to shock people and get attention. I guess it is working since it is making the news. Here is the full story.

Halloween Horror Nights

What better way to be scared this Halloween season than to visit Universal Studios in Hollywood. Once again this year Universal Studios will be hosting Halloween Horror Nights. The teaser clip from the website is entertaining and there is a special appearance by Jason Voorhies from Friday the 13th. From the looks of it all of Hollywood's famous monsters will be there. This also includes Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

One of the famous attractions of Universal Studios is taking the studio tour on a tram to see how movies are made. This all changes for Halloween Horror Nights when guests are allowed to get off the tram and become immersed in a Hollywood horror movie. The clip below shows what it was like in 2006.

Choosing a Costume

October 31st is almost here and it is time to get serious about deciding what to be for Halloween. During a recent trip to Universal Studios in Hollywood I rode on Revenge of the Mummy The Ride. As I was waiting in line it gave me a lot of ideas about Halloween. It is a spooky ride and geared for older teenagers and adults. It is not like the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland where smaller kids can go through.

As you are inside the Revenge of the Mummy ride there are creepy voices and the intensity builds. Once you are strapped into the ride it is pure chaos. It gets up to speeds close to 45mph and there are lots of special effects. The ride is short but since it is so fast you are hardly know what just happened. Watch out for the large cockroaches as they crawl all over your feet!

Even as you exit the ride at Universal Studios the experience does not stop. There were 3 mummy statues in a hallway close to the exit door. They were very well done and realistic looking. Just be careful because one might jump out at you. It got me thinking that being a mummy for Halloween would be cool. A mummy is a classic character and the costume can be done in a variety of ways. One way to get started with a mummy costume is to purchase a mask like the one below.

Once the mask is purchased get a large mount of guaze bandages and wrap your body. Just make sure not to wrap yourself so tight you cannot move! Here is another mummy mask to ponder from FrightCatalog.com. It looks to be of pretty high quality with bandages already applied, dark scary eyes and nasty looking teeth.
